Moving to Spain

Ben93

Hey everyone,

I’ve been seriously considering a move lately and Spain was my first choice for a while, mostly for the weather and lifestyle. But recently I stumbled upon some interesting info about Romania and started wondering if it might be worth looking into as well, but that's a topic for another forum :)

I was wondering if anyone here has started a company in Spain and if so how was the whole process? Do you have any suggestions in terms of providers? I have stumbled upon a few providers ([link moderated]) for Romania that even say the company can be opened fully remote. Is that also possible for Spain? I won't be able to move there until next year..

Thanks in advance!!

If you are thinking of opening a company to 'optimize taxes', forget it - la hacienda considers any company for which you are the only critical person for the functioning of the company, as a 'pantalla' company, ie, an extension of yourself, made to only dodge taxes and makes you pay personal income tax. Ie, if the company cannot continue to operate without you, its a pantalla. If you have a significant share in the company without anyone else being critical to the company, still pantalla. If you added your wife, brother, some cousin as socio etc, still pantalla.

You can just become an autonomo instead. You would pay still the same personal income taxes and have less responsibility for contabilidad (accounting, tax responsibilities etc). Much less paperwork and effort on an ongoing basis. You could also benefit from reduced tax if your activity is within the scope of certain incentivized professions/activities.

Also: Always find a local gestor who knows how to deal with foreigners' business stuff and ask them. Never trust any advice you read on the Internet, including this one. (the pantalla company thing is correct though).
