Soon to be Expat living in the north west f Spain

LORSEIW

Hi All,

My name is Liam and I am 56 years old.  I hope to buy a property in the next 12 to 18 months somewhere in the north west of Spain and use for holidays and then to retire to in the next few years (sooner the better).   I don't use the the term Galicia even though its is by far the most likley area I will end up in as I could end up bordering Galicia in Cantabria, Austrias or even Castile y Leon.

I have been touring the area by car on 2-3 week vacations for the last 6 years and am in love with everything on offer, from the Picos to Finnestere, the Las Medulas to Biaona, from Ribadsella  across to Lekeitio.

Current top two locations are either Cee and its surrounds or Ferrol and its surrounds.  I like busy working towns with access to the coast as I'm a keen shore and small boat sea angler.

Everytime I come back from holiday I'm excited about new areas, previously it was Muros (to touristy), then Gijon (to expensive), Vitoria-Gasteiz (to far from the sea), Cangas de Onis (nice town but a bit too touristy and too far from coast), maybe someone can comment on my growing experience and tell me where I'll end up! LOL!!

I look forward to browsing the various interesting threads on this site and reaching out for advice.  If anyone wishes to PM me based on the above introduction please feel free.

Kind regards and wishing you all the best for 2025.

Liam.

Hi Liam... What you will find as regards "touristy" in this area is that is really only in summer, and the vast majority of the tourists are Spanish. Most foreign tourists head south to the beaches of the Med. The rest of the year there are very few tourists anywhere, except perhaps on the Camino around Santiago.

The window for boating is quite small as i am sure you are aware the Bay of Biscay is brutal except for a few months.
