I want to drive my EU registered car into Serbia and I'm running into hassle and difficulties as follows and I'd appreciate any insight anyone here could share:
1) Unfortunately my Green card is not valid in Serbia and it seems I have to buy car insurance (minimum liability only)Â at the border. I found out that "Casco" insurance does not include liability and theft. The idea of "Comprehensive" or "all risks" insurance does not exist. I also have to bring the car to the insurance company to be photographed for damage if I want to buy insurance. It's also very expensive, perhaps 3 x the cost of my EC insurance. I'd almost be better off buying a Serbian car for the 6 months I will be here.
2) I've read that cars with tinted front and rear windows are not allowed into Serbia. I am not sure what this means. My car has tinted side (from rear passenger doors) and the very rear window is also tinted. The drivers side, front passenger and front windows are not tinted. I do not know the degree of tinting but I can say the car was originally imported from Canada. What I don't want to do is arrive at the border and then be refused entry or stopped or fined by the cops or worse, end up with the car impounded.
Does any one know anything about these issues? Is it really a problem with the tinted windows or it's something they say but do nothing about etc?
Thanks in advance!
