Purchasing a brand new car in Romania

BellaIQ

Just for the heck of it I went to shop for a car similar to the one in the USA: a Ford.
The condition is simple: to have a viable "girant", a person with good financial creditworthiness that would vouch that in case you don't pay an auto loan (unless you paid cash), (s)he will take over the payments. Everything will be signed, of course, like any contract.
Problem: the monthly payment for 72 months was much higher than what I pay in the states but not impossible to achieve with a stable job.

Thank you for letting me know a bit about how this worked for you. I may be assisting someone as a co-signer. Do you know if there was a requirement that the co-signer ("girant") reside in Romania? Did you obtain the loan from the Ford dealer, or did you go to the dealer with a loan approved from a lender in advance? In the US, you can often get a better deal and loan rate if you walk in pre-approved. Is that also how it works in Romania?
