Selling a car

Bongadav

Hello, It looks like i will have to return to the uk.

I have a Portuguese car and will have to sell.

When i was looking to buy I looked in the UK, cheaper prices. They were thin on the ground.

I realise it will be easier to sell here. Has anyone any experience on selling a Portuguese registered car in the UK?

Thanks

No, but I've seen people try to buy cars from elsewhere in Europe.

You can sell it, and it's perfectly legal to buy, but UK registration might be an issue, and insurance is likely to be a killer.

UK insurance companies don't like left hand drive cars.

Yes, thanks.

When I was looking for a car I could not find a Portuguese reg car in the uk.

Hi,

You could also have other issues such as a UK resident is generally not permitted to drive an EU registered car in the UK and it can only be there for a limited amount of time till it needs to be reregistered. if importing to UK needs  to declared NOVA, RHD lights, tax paid, insured, MOT, etc. Mine (seemed a good idea at the time)  has been parked in a driveway in Bristol rusting away for a couple of years as even the scrap man won't touch a vehicle with "foreign" papers.  The only option is to somehow find someone who has a property in PT and is going to Portugal and wants to take stuff (pets?) or similar.  There a couple of places if you search " LHD  UK " which specialise in LHD in UK to give an idea of prices if you reregister it. Would you PM me basic information about the car as I know someone very slowly rebuilding a ruin in PT so keeps going there and back and was thinking of getting a car to park there and use to get bags of cement, wood, go to the pub etc.   Good Luck.
