Delays in processing my D7 visa

Guest8795

Hello everyone,

I first lodge my D7 application back in 29th of June this year, I had to make an ajudsment (completing my application) on 26th of August,
But since then (around 45 days) i didn't hear anything about it.  My lease agreement, insurance and plane ticket were scheduled for last 1st of October.
They got my passport since the 29th of June when I first lodge my application. I might need it soon.

Have they dismissed my application,
has somebody went through the same problem?
Someone knows what's going on ?

Thanks for your returns.

Hi Znasne,

This video is good because it has some timeline schemes (from minute 5 onwards):

Hi Johnny,

I already seen this video, unfortunately it doesn't answer my questions.
Still awaiting for any feedback from the community.

Thanks.

Hi Johnny,

I already seen this video, unfortunately it doesn't answer all my questions. But it does help, you're doing great job! Thank you.

Thanks.

It can take up to 60 days to get the temporary four-month visa in your home country, from the moment you submit all the required information in your consulate. But be aware that previous COVID restrictions delayed this process overall...

Guest8795

Nice of you Johnny, got that,
thanks for your return.

Hi Johnny

This is actually just to thank you again but this time for your accurate estimation regarding the process of the visa.

Took just a bit less than 60 days to  get the so awaited response which was positive.

Soon in Portugal but no idea yet about where to land.. any advice would be great.

Obrigado.

You're Welcome :) The answer depends on what you are looking for. If you want to talk a bit about it, it would be helpful as forum members could help you.

I know this is an old post, but I have a related question as the original poster...

I submitted my D7 application on 26 Feb 2024.  I realize that it may take 90-120 days, possibly longer, for approval.  When I submitted my application, I also surrendered my U.S. Passport.  I have international travel scheduled for mid-July 2024 (four months out).

In the event I don't receive my Passport back in time to travel in July, has anyone had experience with requesting a duplicate Passport (while your Passport is with the Embassy/awaiting Visa approval)?  Any help/guidance would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Wouldn't your embassy or your passport issuing authority be the best place to find out whether you could get an interim passport, if visa processing takes very long? I wonder what the members in this forum could contriute here.

Other than that I guess these long processing times are a good lesson to learn for future residents of Portugal. Once you are resident you might have equalliy long times without a driver's license usable outside Portugal. Processing times in the public administration are completely random.

Wasn't asking whether I can request a duplicate/interim passport, nor was I inquiring about processing times.

I'm  asking whether anyone has an experience to share about requesting a duplicate/interim passport while their Passport was with the embassy awaiting a Visa approval.

If no one does, that's fine and I would not expect a response to my inquiry; however, if they do, I'd be interested in hearing it.  Thanks.

@daphnelavern there is no such thing as a duplicate or interim passport. If you get a new one issued they will hole punch your current one and change the number. This will screw up your application. I have had a client retrieve there's from Toronto, although once. I recommend never leaving your passport personally.

@hbinder36 In the USA, you can get a second passport expressly for this purpose. Or when you need to travel to countries that dont necessarily see eye to eye and a particular country's entry stamp will get your entry refused.

I've never applied for one, so cannot answer the question.
