Transporting our pets to Portugal

dgvilsack

Looking for advice on getting our small dog and 4 cats to Portugal. Moving from US (Orlando Fl) to Portugal.

What did you have to do to get the pets into Portugal e.g. shots, vaccinations, papers etc.

Which transport company did you use, how was the experience? Would you use them again?

I’m sure all of the proper details will be in the link from @JohnnyPT, but thought I’d share my experience, in case helpful:

I moved to Portugal solo from San Francisco in Sep 2024 with my cat. I needed her med records to show that she had all of her shots - especially her rabies shot - as well as her microchip and spaying info.

I had to also get a sign off from a USDA certified vet, who submitted an electronic form to, I think, the USDA.

Once I received that back (I had to provide a self-addresses return Fedex envelope), I had to submit copies of those docs to the vet at Lisbon airport.

My cat traveled with me in the cabin and did very well (no meds). Once I cleared immigration, I went directly to the vet’s office at LIS, the vet scanned her microchip, compared it with something on her screen, printed and handed me a doc and waved us on our way. When exiting customs, I showed the doc from the vet and we went on our merry new adventure.ðŸ˜

She now has her European Passport and is good to travel anywhere in Europe!

Hope this is helpful somehow…but I know the link Johnny provided will show the official info. 😺
