Hi Julien

We are Alan and Deborah.

We have been coming to Portugal for last 12 years and plan to retire there in the not too distant future.

We already own an apartment in Monte Gordo.

We love the people and the general feeling of well being we get when we are here.

Both retired.

I am from India. I have successfully applied for a Job Seeker Visa of Portugal on 7 May 2025. So I will get my Job Seeker Visa till 15 July 2025, and I will be arriving in Lisbon, Portugal till 25 July 2025. So, I will be looking for a suitable job opportunity in Portugal. I have almost 10 years of experience in IT (Information Technology) Industry in IT Technical Support Department/Functional Area.

I am really very excited to come to Portugal.

From memory so check. I think that visa gives you six months in total to find a job and a new visa.

Six months living isn't going to be cheap, so you should get into job hunting as soon as possible.

Good luck.

Yes Fred, you are right. I have already started my job search from India. Also please let me know if you have any information about Portuguese Job Market. And do you know anyone who has already gone to Portugal on a Job Seeker Visa?

Hi Tamie! A warm welcome to you — thank you for sharing a bit of your story.

I’m so sorry to hear about what you went through with the hurricanes. That must have been incredibly difficult, but it’s inspiring to see you starting fresh and opening a new chapter here in Portugal.

Based on what you’re looking for, I believe there are several smaller cities that could be a great fit — peaceful, with good infrastructure, access to public transportation, shops, and restaurants. Places like Coimbra, Aveiro, Viseu, Braga, Caldas da Rainha, Guimarães, and Fafe are all worth considering.

If you need more specific advice about neighborhoods, the rental process, or local contacts, I’d be happy to help however I can.

Wishing you the best of luck with the sale of your home in the U.S. and this exciting new beginning! 💛

Hi All,

We are Amanda and William, currently residing in South Carolina, USA. Originally from Colombia, South America, we have also spent time living in Chile. Our passion for travel has inspired us as we plan to retire in approximately two years, with Spain and Portugal as our primary destinations of interest.

We intend to embark on an exploratory trip to Portugal and Spain soon to familiarize ourselves with the regions and identify potential cities or towns where we might like to settle.

We are eager to exchange information and insights related to our plans with like-minded individuals.

What a coincidence. Same name. Same plan. Same timeline this year. Similar background. Hehe.

We are Joe and Marcy, retirees currently living in central Florida and western North Carolina. We are researching living in Lisbon, ideally in the central part of the city with walking access to parks, restaurants, etc. We are planning a March 2026, two month vacation to get a feel for the area.

We will be investigating the pros/cons to be aware of and appreciate insight any of you have.
