D7 visa appointment

Andrew Finnie

Hi,

I had my temporary visa from the UK, this ended 30th January. I still await my meeting with AIMA. I have emailed, telephoned and visited Faro. I have reference numbers and constantly being informed you just have to wait. I’m in the system and want to start living and spending more time in Portugal but my understanding is I’m still limited to the 90 day rule.

Any guidance appreciated as I’m finding it very frustrating and nothing happening.

Hi Andrew,

I am in the same position as you, on a D7 visa since August 2023 with no luck getting an appointment for residency, despite trying everyday.

I was told that I may be able to get my residency without an appointment just by getting to AIMA shop in Faro early and getting a ticket… it sounds like you have tried this? Can you confirm this is a waste of time or is it worth a shot?

Thanks and good luck.

The government has extended the validity of documents and visas relating to residence in Portugal until 30 June 2025.

@petswan

total waste of time they only look at the screen and state you havnt got an appointment yet.

My temp visa ended at the end of Jan and all visas have been extended to June 25. i have no idea i  what this means for me as i spend more time in Portigal than UK and nothing has been said….😔

does this mean we can stay as long as we wish pending appontnents??

@JohnnyPT

does this mean my temporary extends until my appointment and i can stay as long as possible in Portugal? mire than 90 days

Apologies for the late reply.

I did end up going to Faro but couldn't even get a ticket as I arrived to late, so it was a waste of time for me.

I did however, get to ask two AIMA ladies, when they were inbetween customers, if I could just turn up and do the residency there and then and was it worth me coming back. Unfortunately, one lady said it was possible, another said it was not, so I am still none the wiser as to wether or not you can just turn up as early as possible and have your residency processed.

@Jac g did you have any luck?

Andrew - yes, your visa being extended until June 2025 means you can stay here in Portugal until then.

The issue I have with this is once you have used your two entries on the visa and your 90 day schengen visa allowance, you are essentially stuck in Portugal until you have your residency. This is causing a lot of problems for many people, including myself.
