Hi rishiaryal,

I posted the same question.. For my case it is a bit different but I think this can give you some sense.

Whatever you're interested, one thing is sure. You should be well educated and your company should be in need of you right now, as soon as possible. Even if it's not urgent, your company SHOULD be in need of you. Get a job contract first. That's the most important part.

I sent around 20~30 CVs to different Norwegian companies and got only one offer. I got master's degree, worked one of the best shipyard in the world, still it was not easy. If you already got a job offer, I really congratulate for you.

My visa was applied by my company in accordance with "Early Employment Scheme". Meaning that, if you don't have problem, and if your company wants, you may work before your residence permit is granted.

Let's say day 1 is the time when my visa was applied.

around day 15, I had interview with police. I went to the police district (they call it 'district' instead of 'station'...) which is in separate building where main police building is.

And after around 1 week, I got my work permit for temporarily.

And after around 1 month, I got an email that my residence permit had been granted. This time, I visited one of the large police district around me. Some police station requires reservation and mine wasn't. It depends. You'll have information with that mail.

And then after 1 week, I got my residence card.

In between, I had my temporary social security number. And then, after I got my residence card, I got my real social security number.

Because my company did quite a lot of things for me, it was easy for me. But you may do it by yourself, if you read through UDI's instruction. Prepare any document you think you MAY need. It may not be useful but some times, it can hold your ankle and the cost to get the documents will kill you.
