Expat Applying for Norway Work Permit: Documenting Current Residence

chandlertimmdoloriel

Good day! I am a Filipino citizen with current residence in Singapore. I want to ask about the documentation required for applying for work residence permit in Norway. The UDI states that:

If you submit your application in a country other than your home country:

  • documentation that you have held a residence permit for the last six months in the country you are applying from.

How is this documented for expats of the country they are applying from?

  • Do I submit my Singapore residence card (actual physical card)?
  • Is photocopy of the Singapore residence card enough? Do I need it notarised?
  • Singapore government also has a digital version (SGWorkPass App) of our residence card, do I need to show it in the documentation?

One concern I've noted is the absence of displayed validity dates (start and end) for my stay here in Singapore on the residence card. Instead, there is only a QR code on the back of the card. This information can be accessed exclusively through a government-made app named SGWorkPass. For verification of the card's authenticity, the UDI would need to download and install this app.

Will you be the one applying for your skilled worker visa? Or is it your employer?

On my case, I'm also a Filipino living abroad (Japan).. but my employer in Norway applied for me and he submitted my application in Norway.. Therefore I did not have to prepare the docs stated in "if you submit your application in a country other than your home country".

I guess that is the the best scenario for someone living outside their home country. The employer will apply on your behalf, and you just have to provide the necessary docs and fill-up the form for the skilled worker visa.

@pjaperez09 Thanks for sharing your experience. Based on my company's website, I should be the one applying for the work visa. But, I can try to ask them if they can do it on my behalf instead.

To future readers: I called the UDI and they said I can just give VFS the photocopy of my SG residence card (front, back) and the app view (screenshot) when the QR code in the card is scanned. They also said that I have to make sure that I bring my physical card when appointing to VFS, for them to verify if the photocopy is legit.
