Permanent Residence Document Withdrawal Agreement

Jobneed

Hello. I have lost my job and for financial reasons want to move back to the UK and give up my rental property in Den Haag. I know I can stay away for up to 5 years, give up my health insurance and my flat. But I need a post address during my time away which I can get from a friend. My question is do postal addresses have a time limit or because I can be away for up to 5 years are post addresses the same time limit. Thank you.

If it takes a year to get a job,for example, I don't want to suddenly find my residence document has been withdrawn because my post address was for only 6 months!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I think it's as simple as transferring to the RNI database at the Gemeente where you are registered; this explains all about the RNI.  The Dutch Government website has a page devoted to returning to the Netherlands after you enter the RNI; this will take you straight to it.

I hope this helps.

Hello Cynic

Thanks for your speedy reply and the info.

I am now thinking I have been given the wrong information about needing a post address, but I must transfer onto the RNI database instead. I must research all of this. My card is valid for ten years but i don't want to get caught out and lose my residency rights by moving to the UK but not doing the right thing I need to do before leaving the Netherlands .

Many thanks

I wouldn't completely dismiss the post address angle, my experience is that this is used in the situation where you have arrived in the Netherlands, but haven't found a useable registration address at the time of registering at the Gemeente.  The RNI is for people who are not resident in the Netherlands, but still have ties, so need to keep their link with the Dutch government, my wife (Dutch Citizen) has been on the RNI and it's forbears since we left, almost 30 years ago.

Thank you Cynic for your help. Now I know there are two options.

I am going to research this further so as to not make any mistakes. Thanks very much
