Free childcare scheme-how does it work?

Gerdhado

Hello,

We will be moving to Malta in October. Never been in the island before.
We would like to enroll our son to a childcare center benefiting from the free government scheme.
We were informed that we should provide 3 last payslips... which is impossible for us since we both will begin working in Malta in October.
1. Is it sufficient a declaration from our employer with working hours etc or we have to pay for the first three months?
2.Is it the childcare free scheeme capped on the upside in case we enroll our son to a private nursery? What are the avg prices for private childcares?
3. Is it feasible in your opinion to enroll our son in Pieta(office premises) while living in Sliema? We will use public transportation, mostly during the rush hours( working hours 8-17)? We think we can save some time since free childcare scheme only entitles us of 40 hours per week.

We will appreciate your tips!

I don’t know when you can start as a new arrival but the nurseries are either part of the scheme or not ime - never been offered any top up option or anything though can’t say we have looked at a huge amount of options.

If you pay it’s like 400/3 months so it’s not a lot
