Hi there! I'm looking into this as well.. I'm also CELTA qualified and have about 10 years experience.

What I've found out so far:

- It should be fairly easy to find work before the summer season starts. (Hope that's true; I'll be in Malta in May for a few days trying to secure a job.
- As in all fields of work, apparently, it's unlikely to find anything / secure a job if you are not in Malta. Of course, it's still a good thing to check out the schools' websites - as all Maltese websites, they might be outdated, though.
- Friends of mine who work in TEFL in Malta have told me that the pay is around 10 EUR / hour - probably a bit more if you're CELTA qualified.
- You need a license to be allowed to teach in TEFL - if you have a CELTA that should be enough to get the license, but you need to do CPD (continued professional development) courses to renew your license on a regular basis.

Have you been to Malta before, and do you know where you'll be living / looking for work?

Most TEFL schools are around St Julian's, Sliema & Gzira. There are 3 or 4 in St Paul's Bay, and I think 2 in Valletta. And some in Gozo, too.
I hope to find something in the north (St. Paul's Bay), as we've got an apartment in Mellieha, and I'd like to avoid having to drive into St Julian's etc. every day!

There is a least one in Mellieha, bottom of the high street next to the chemist and one in Mosta.

Thanks for the info about Mellieha, Terry. I'll definitely check that one out!

The school in Mosta is only a small one - it is in fact a computer school that also offers EFL classes. A friend of mine teaches there, she said at the moment (low season) they only have 2 or 3 teachers.
