Today almost all shops and life is shut down; much more so than on Xmas or New Year's Days. I cannot remember hearing it's a holiday anywhere else. Maybe Maltese have a special bond to St. Paul due to Ship reck and all that...

If you ever come to Mellieha take a walk down to Selmun and you can see a large statue of St paul close up. on a very small island Where his ship was wrecked. It is truly amazing how the Maltese managed to transport and erect this very large statue of St. Paul on this very small island in the middle of the sea.

The above is the actual St Pauls Day and should not be confused with St Pauls Shipwreck.

It is a totally different day and is uniquely Maltese as the event happened here.
