Ireland, a welcoming destination to expats?

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Settling in Ireland, like every new environment, can feel like stepping into the unknown and brings many questions: how will it go, how to integrate successfully, etc.
To help smooth this transition, we invite you to share your experience since you landed in Ireland, whether recently or a long ago:

What was your first impression when you arrived?

Did you face any challenges while integrating? Any advice on how to overcome them?

Are there any support programs, groups or events to help newcomers settle in?

Do you find it easy to make friends or connections with locals and fellow expats?

What makes Ireland a welcoming destination for expats?

Share your insights and experience.

Thank you for your contribution.

Ireland, a welcoming destination to expats?

I think not really, or not anymore.

Before the housing crisis 2007/2008/2009 Ireland was a welcoming country I think.

Since then, your employmer will welcome you, also the gym around the corner, some Uber drivers.

Heritage Ireland is also happy to welcome you most of the time.

At a lot of other places, you may not feel welcome.

I went here 3 times - 2002 Cork, 2003 Dublin and 2024 Dublin - connecting with locals never worked.

Connecting with other Expats works better.
