Advice on buying property in Hungary.

PinkPanther123

Hello, I am from Bulgaria. I am looking to buy a house. Which area would you suggest, we are a young family. Up to 10 million Hungarian forints. If possible, it should be furnished. Can we find such properties?

Thank you so much!

Yes, you can but only in the countryside/villages and not in the towns/cities.

Prices in towns/cities will almost certainly be beyond your budget.

Look on (in Hungarian only)

I am afraid that boat has sailed.

Even just 5 years ago it was possible to find a decent house for 10 million although out in the sticks.

Now it might get you a fixer upper way out in the countryside.

Not impossible but not likely either.

We saw several weekend houses a few years ago for under 10 million, those are not for living in full time.

Can not hurt to contact a real estate agent but if you are expecting a fixed up home forget about it.

Do not forget a home way out in the countryside will probably not have much work and  many residents will only speak Hungarian. The public transportation is good here but who wants to travel an hour or longer each day to work?

Yes, definitely.  Nothing cheap in Budapest.  Out in the sticks, for sure available but what would anyone do there?  And why?

I was on the 4-6 tram route to Margit Island yesterday and it's replacement buses with surly drivers.  Why the trams aren't running, I've no idea.   We had to walk a lot - 30m. It was very annoying.  Public transport is good if it's seamless and with short walks.  Or you're young with properly working legs.
