Newcomer in Stuttgart

Thiebaud

Hi there !

I'm °Õ³ó¾±Ã©²ú²¹³Ü»å, French and 25. I'm going to move in Stuttgart from October for working there. As a newcomer I'de like to meet new friends and discover the city.

I used to be an exchange student in Sweden and Germany so I'm very sociable and open minded. I'de like to find back this nice student multicultural atmosphere by meeting new friends. :)

I'm always ready for going out, do sport, meet people, visit something... So don't hesitate to contact me.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Thiebaud

Welcome to the club Alistair ! :)

We'll have to figure out how and where to meet up with all the interested. What about next week? Any propositions?

Militarywife

Did you guys meet up?  I don't know if people go to private messaging rather than continuing to blog but, it seems that this site has a bunch of dead ends.
thoughts...?

Harmonie

Hello Militarywife and welcome to ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ!

A little intro maybe?

If you see that the site has a bunch of dead ends, why don't you propose something?;)

Harmonie.

Hi everybody!

I've already been living in Stuttgart for one year now and it's true that making connections is not especially easy in the region. On one side, the swabian dialect introduces some distance even between german people. On the other side it's not quite common to be colleague and friend at the same time.

Anyway we could make the things happen, right? What about starting a regular meeting? My proposal:
- on next Tuesday, October 4th at 6pm
- in Café Le Théâtre, Bolzstraße 6 / Gloria Passage

Who is interested to participate? To bring some ideas or maybe moderate? Those who cannot be there could you give us an alternative time and place?

Looking for your answers,
calator

anand0312

Hi calator, I agree with you. That's a great idea (initiative) for a regular meeting :):)...I am interested to participate and could prefer the meet up during weekend.
@Theibaud: From when you will available in Stuttgart?

-Anand

Hi Anand, i agree that it's not easy for all to get available during the week and that we may have to launch several opportunities until it works. Would you be able to be there on tuesday anyway? This should also be the occasion to discuss about individual preferences for next meetings etc. Otherwise you may have a concrete proposal at the week-end? Thx, Calator

Militarywife

I won't be living in Stuttgart till May 2012 however, if I was there on Tuesday I would meet up.
Do you guys reccomend living in the city in a flat or in the subburbs in a house? Is there an area of Stuttgart you prefer?  Are there bad areas of Stuttgart?

Militarywife

I found out 3 days ago that my husband and I will be moving to Stuttgart in the Spring (military orders).  I know its months away, but I'm a planner. We will be traveling there to house/apartment shop before we move there permenantly but, my mind races with questions.  I don't speak a word of German but I'm excited for the adventure.
I was born in England and moved to American when I was 9yrs.  I am a duel citizen now and I married and American. I'm 36 and we have no children.
I hope this site will be useful in my preperations for arrival and the transition into living there.

Hope to see you there

Glad to see this site has so much current activity!

I've been in Stuttgart for 4 years and it's very hard to make friends.  I speak German, but there's still a barrier with the Schwäbisch.  It's difficult to explain.

I'm looking for some English-speakers to hang out with on a regular basis.  Looks like the regular meetings are going well, so I'm planning on making the next one on the 17th next month.  Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Thiebaud

LOL I have the same problem with the Schwäbisch at the moment, it's simply impossible to understand ! I hope it will come with the time :)

Sure you should join us to the event the next week, I'm sure there will be a few expats.

fullbirdmusic

Haha I hate to say it but I don't think it will get better :)
Yeah I will probably be at the next meeting in nov. There are some others meeting tomorrow at Biddy Early's in Stuttgart if anyone is interested.
Found the event through another forum.
