Hi -

I have just got married to my partner (I am a UK/EU citizen) and my partner is Korean.

What is the process, how long does it take? Can It be done in Germany? What can I expect?

Any wisdom please?

What I have found on "german immigration" website and on "samtog Germany" website

Citizens of the United States of America, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the Republic of Korea, as well as EU citizens may apply for their residence permit after entering Germany without a visa.

Applications take about 1-3 months to be processed.

Required documents:

Application form
Passport
3 photographs
Application fee (Demand Draft for visa fees)
Copy of Spouse's/family member's residence permit
Copy of the valid employment contract of the spouse living in Germany, if applicable
Proof of relationship with the spouse/family member
Invitation letter from the spouse/family member
Spouse's/family member's proof of income and accomodation
Proof of knowledge of German Language.

I hope this might help you a bit :)

How do I register as living in Germany is this simply a matter of visiting an office (from memory)

You have to register your address at the local registry office (Einwohnermeldeamt, often in the local town hall - Rathaus) within a week of taking up residence there.
