CY pension

expatfor03

Last question for the day :-) How many years does one need to contribute to the CY Pension Fund, as self employed, in order to be eligible for pension? What is the minimum CY pension? Any differences between female and male worked?

And how are years worked abroad accounted for (my understanding: they are counted towards minimum working requirements, but then actual money is paid from the Country where she worked on a prorated basis)?

Thanks!

Im no expert on pensions but I do know that the Cyprus Govt recently agreed to Pensioners in Cyprus to get a big increase backdated to January 2020 a minimum of €710 per month. see link below.

Also as far as I am aware pension contributions made by an EU citizen in any EU country can be included in calculating your pension entitlements in Cyprus or any other EU country. See EU citizens information website on pensions: Excerpt copied below:

[i][i]"Applying for pensions
If you've worked in several EU countries, you may have accumulated pension rights in each of them.

You'll have to apply to the pension authority in the country where you're living or you last worked. If you've never worked in the country where you're living, your host country will forward your claim to the one you last worked in.

That country is then responsible for processing your claim and bringing together records of your contributions from all the countries you worked in.

In some countries, the pension authority should send you your pension application form before you reach that country's retirement age. If you don't receive it, check with your pension authority to see whether they will automatically send it to you."

Thank you so much Jake! That is a good sign. Other Countries often increase fees retroactively  :/ Good that CY increases pensions!

Maybe if you ve amassed pension(s) entitlement in a different country it would be better to leave them there and be paid in due course... am sure i have read they can be amalgamated
as for Cyprus pensions mechanisms ive no information on that  - however I would suggest taking some professional advice on that  = i can suggest and highly recommend Blevins Franks as a good place to start - you can usually get a free consultation with them  - they have a presence in UK Malta and Cyprus...
