Work Sponsorship

RachelDaw

Hi. I’m interested to know of anyone has had any recent success obtaining work sponsorship to enable working in Cyprus as a UK citizen? Post Brexit this seems to be an impossible task, so I was wondering if anyone here has had any success and if so with what companies?

Hi Rachel,

Yes, I have recently. It's been a very long process (8 months) but it's now complete. There are about 100 things you need to do, in a specific way, and within a certain timescale.

The €500 you spend on a good immigration agent to get it over the line will be the best money you ever spend.

You need to have an offer of employment for some sort of managerial/authority position and a 12 month rental agreement or property title deeds to get in a position to start the process.

Thank you. Yes we already have everything in place - except for an offer of employment, but nowhere is willing to even try is the sense that we are getting, so we’re wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that was willing to sponsor. (We are based in the paphos region).

@RachelDaw

Always the case as there are costs for the employer to bear when involved in sponsoring as licensing is necessary ..it's easier and cheaper to employ a local Cypriot or an EU national where licensing is not required ...assuming you are a brit....thus a TCN.... The work visa is only valid for one job and if you leave for another then that visa is void and the process starts again

If you can get an Irish passport. Then that makes it much easier and cheaper all round

Not easy by any means but not impossible.. good luck

Nb there have been noises regarding making it easier for employers to employ TCNs but that is usually for the tourism and hospitality industry as they really are struggling to get and keep staff.
