Taxes for expats in Cyprus

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

When settling in and living in Cyprus, you will also need to navigate the local tax system. In order to help newcomers and expats ease their tax-related experience, we would like to invite you to share your experience.

What are the taxes applicable to expats in Cyprus?

Have there been any recent changes in tax regulations that expats should know about?

Are there any local tax incentives or agreements with your home country?

Have you come across any unexpected or unusual local tax?

What do you wish you had known earlier about taxes in Cyprus?

Share your insights and experience.

Thank you for your contribution.

Registering online with cyprus tax authority was just a breeze - I think we had our TINs back within a few hours. I find Cyprus bureaucracy like this - either world-class, simple and fast or sometimes buried under mountains of photocopies and totally confusing. Great job on Tax Cyprus !!

Both my wife and I applied for a TIN last year after getting tired of explaining to our banks overseas that we did not have a TIN since they wouldn't issue one to us as we did not have any local income, and therefore had no need to file a tax return (this direct from the Cyprus Income Tax office here).

The application was rejected... On the grounds that they had already issued us a TIN.

No clarification, but we expect that it was automatically issued when we bought our house here in 2022.

Even the Bank of Cyprus indicated on our accounts that we did not need a TIN for the same reason.

Application online was very simple and reasonably quick reply.
