relocating again to Brussels

sukie01

I am thinking of relocating again to Brussels, this time as a retired person.  I lived there for 28 years and, quite honestly, life and in particular the health service,is considerably better there than where I currently live in the UK.  I want to rent for 6 months (in the areas of Woluwe St Pierre, St Lambert, Auderghem or Watermael-Boitsfort) ie in the french speaking part prior to buying and I know it is difficult to rent a house or apartment (with 3 bedrooms) without entering the 3-6-9 year lease. If it were cheaper or easier, I would consider renting in Rosiere, La Hulpe.  Can anyone direct me to a website that perhaps has places for rent for shorter periods.  Also, if anyone can give me some idea of current costs of water, gas/electricity, phone, I would be grateful.

I invite you to check out rental adverts in our Housing in Brussels section of the forum.

You may also drop an advert there to increase your chances to find a nice rental

Hi Sukie,

To give you a neutral point of view of cost of living city ranking, have a look on the Mercer 2015. They have compared 200 cities in the world. London is on the 12 position and Brussels on the 103 position...

Why do you not rent something throu Airbnb website on a temporary basis. That will give time to search the perfect location for your family and yourself.

Then to get an idea about the pricing of the various services, the easiest is through comparison sites. Like this one "test-achats" for example. There are many other ...

Sukie!

I live in this area but only just recently started living here so I haven't received my first bills yet. Else I could have helped you. What I can tell you that if you hunt well enough, you can find a place to rent for a year even - like my husband and I did.

I have used Airbnb quite a bit but my opinion is that it is *generally* expensive. But of course that can be your last resort of sorts. If I were you, I'd spend a lot of time and energy finding a good comfortable place to call home, if I could from the UK.

My husband just stayed in a shared apartment till we found something better, not the best really - but we took our time to comb through sites and sites of houses. I was in India at the time, so the inconvenience was his :( not mine. Ultimately we found this place through a friend :S
