Belgium D card work in the Netherlands

expat_from_aisa

Dear all members,

Could someone tell me can I freely work in the Netherlands if I have a D card? Or I still have to do the same paperwork with people who don't have a D card, like applying for a working permit? If so, what is the advatange for a D card holder to work in another EU country?

Many thanks for your help!!

Hello,

as far as I remember, the only advantage of the D card is that you've 1000 less documents to provide if you want to settle in another member states.
About the work permit, it depends of each country. (For example permanent resident in France don't need work permit in Germany, but the reverse is wrong)

You've 2 different cases:
if you want to settle and work in Holland
if you want stay in Belgium and work near the borders (frontier workers)

Normally, if you're a permanent resident (D card), the administration isn't too heavy as you're under the EU laws of permanent resident.
A quick mail to the Netherlands embassy in Brussels should give you a correct answer. (And please give us back their feedback ;) )

I recently asked the Netherlands Immigration and naturalization service (IND).
Here are the benefits of holding an EU-long-term card:

You still need to apply for a Dutch residence card, but the procedure and requirements are much easier than for someone who doesn't hold this kind of card.

For working, you still need a work permit for <one year>, then you can work without the work permit.

I've a similar question but for France (i.e., work freely in France with Belgium D card). Did not find anything online. Any clues?

Your right of stay in Belgian is already ok, as you've a D card.
So basically, your employer will have to request a work permit for you in France, which will be easy as you've already a permanent resident card in an EU country.
