Property Damages

dlane1987

We have recently come back from Belgium. We were not invited to the initial survey of the property, which is our understanding is a legal requirement in Belgium. Now the exit survey has been done, we were pressured into waving our right to be there because of the deadline to get back to the uk and covid making it impossible to return. We said we were available for one day but the estate agent wouldn’t do that day.
In summary we were not there at the first or final survey. We are being charged for damages not caused by us. We don’t think we should have to pay anything due to there being no way in law that any new damages can be assigned to us.
Is there a law regarding this?
Is there a law that limits the damages to the security deposit amount?
Are there any legal texts I can read on this topic?

Then it is clearly indicated in Belgian legislation that it is always necessary to make an inventory before signing a rental lease. As well as at the exit. Be logical, Whatever the country in the world, you do not sign a contract without having checked ...
