Is my net income estimation correct?

mamatv

Hello everyone

I am an expat in Netherlands and earning around 4000 euros net per month. GIven the same gross salary amount, the website gave me the number of ~ 2300 euros net per month (more than 40% less).

Is it true? It really surprises me when two neighbor countries (and quite similar in living expense in my personal opinions) have very different tax schemes.

The salary shown in the calculator is for 13.92 months and not 12 months. There is a 13th month and vacation in Belgium.

They have a similar system in Holland; perhaps the OP has divided his Dutch salary by 12, not the 13.92 to get a like for like comparison.

So, given that my gross salary in Belgium is 60k per year (incl. everything, i.e. 13.92 months), how much I should expect to take home per year?

You've already done what we would do (consult an online calculator); I think the issue is you're not making a like for like comparison, for example, the 13th month already quoted; 30% tax rule in Holland?  You were right in your original statement regarding circumstances in both countries, they are very similar.

I just want to make sure that I understand correctly the estimation. For instance, if a company offered me 60k gross per year, and they say, hey, we will divide it to 12, forget the 13th and 0.92 vacation - so in this case I should earn 2.3k net per month?

The tool you used, assumes that the gross salary you mentioned there, is 13.92 times your monthly salary. It's calculations are based on this fact.

As your gross of 60K is only 12 times and not 13.92, you will have a bit more (say 2600 or more) in net.

You may also check with your employer if you are eligible for expat special taxation scheme. If so, you get more net salary.

Oops, it is the first time I heard about  expat special taxation scheme in Belgium? I tried to Google but it does not give any information. Might you provide some URLs or information regarding this?
