Spouse family reunification visa from inside belgium

AlanSparrow

Hello,

I am in Belgium on a limited work A Card. I would like to bring my spouse who is an American citizen. (We were married in Algeria, though). My understanding is that she can come using her American passport, and we can just go to the Belgian commune and get married there. then, I can ask for a family reunification residency card for her from the commune directly. Is that correct ? She could do it from the US but she lives far away from the Belgian embassy, so I'm seeing this as an easier way to do it. Is this doable ?

Otherwise, what do you recommend ? Can I get more information on the procedure ?

Oh,

I have the exact same scenario, but we got married in USA. I am working on a limited A card also. My husband is now in Belgium.

we went to the commune (city hall) and the answer is yes, you can apply for family reunification from inside Belgium as long as you apply within 3 months of her arrival to Belgium.

But they will ask for many documents to be signed and apostilles from USA.

we did not yet get it.

My husband keeps travelling every 3 months.

Good luck and let us know.

Update: we receive a call from the city hall "la commune" and we submitted the documents and paid the fees last week.

They informed us that they will submitted to the office for foreign affairs and they will decide.

To us: the first step was to go to the city hall and we went several times till almost giving up...I am very thankful they accepted the application and processing it. my hope is that we will hear a good news by the Christmas and before the new year.

wishing you all the best

The processing time for such applications is six months from the date your complete file is submitted to the commune. In practice, it might take longer, but never less. Sorry for this news, but you won't get any news at least until May 2025.
