Applying for Belgium Nationality

s2946

Hi All,

I am currently living in belgium legally since 4 years and 10 months. I came here on a family reuniifcation visa and now I hold an F card. I am married to a Belgian, but I am an Indian Citizen (Indian Passport holder). I want to now get my belgian passport and become a belgium citizen. How can i do this? I know I have to wait for 5 years, but once 5 years are up, do i just go to my local commune and tell them I want a belgian passport? I am very confused, please help.

Each commune has their own way of starting the process though it is the same documents and same process all over Belgium. for example at Antwerp you can check here for required documents and how to get appointment. "https://www.antwerpen.be/product/belg-worden"

Hi,

Note that the process isnot getting the passport, it is becoming a national of belgium. You need to obtain the nationality befote obtaining your passport.

A couple of things you need to consider:

  • You mist have a permanent residency card. To the best of my knowledge you need the F+, B or L card. That will take 5 month to get once you ve accomplished your 5 years. You cannot apply before march.
  • You need to ensire you meet the language and social integration requirements. There are several says to fulfill that (check in other forums)
  • And finally, becoming a belgian means you will lose your indian nationality, since India does not allow multiple citizenships

best of luck
