Single Permit - US Citizen

ameliagwestmoreland

Hello!

Is anyone in here a US citizen who has moved to Belgium on a single permit? If so, what was your process for picking up the single permit and then getting a Visa D?

Hey! I'm from the US and recently moved to Belgium, just about a month ago. I am still waiting for my single permit, but I'm here for up to 90 days with my husband who is here as a student, and will be going back to the US for a short time to get my D visa. For the single permit Annex 46, you will get that from your employer via email. Then for the D visa, you can google "Belgium in the US" to find the consulate website that has all the information on what you need to do for your D visa. What I will be doing, is mailing all of my documents via UPS with a return envelope for them to send my passport with the visa back to me. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for responding. So my single permit was approved, but they sent it to Atlanta and told me I HAVE to pick it up there, rather than emailing it to my employer. I could pick up a Visa in the UK (which is where I am currently), but I have to have the work permit, and the consualte in ATL is refusing to forward it to the london office. Any thoughts on this?

@ameliagwestmoreland That honestly sounds kinda weird to me; I do know that you have to be in the US to get the D visa, there is a whole section on the IBZ website about this. Which is why I have to go back to the US, even though I'm already in Belgium. It seems weird though that it would've been sent to the consulate and not to your employer so that you have a copy. Usually, you and your employer will get a copy of annex 46, along with the consulate so that they can verify everything when you send the documents for your D visa. I would reach out to your employer for clarification on what you should do. My employer is using a third party lawyer to process my file, so that's who I've been reaching out to with questions like this. Sorry I'm not more help!

Visa processing is always done based on your legal residence at the time you apply. if your legal residence was the southeast US the visa has to be processed at the consulate in Atlanta.  What address was on your drivers license at the  time you applied to the single permit?
