Family Reunification or Cohabitation???

Baniii285

Hello! My partner and I are together for over 5 years and actually we have been religiously married over 2 years now. We dont have a marriage proof since we are not legally married and we are not registered partners because it is not permitted here in Turkey. He is already there and I want to join him so we are gonna apply for visa but I am not sure if I should apply for a family reunification visa or a cohabitation visa. If you have info about this can you pls help?

The safest would be to register your marriage in Turkey as you said you are already married, and apply family reunification as everyone do which will take 6-9 months.

Your proof of marriage must be solid for the family reunion visa. If you don't have your marriage papers which are also certified and legalized by the embassy, it's better to apply as a partner on cohabita

To answer you more precisely, you need to let us know the nationalities of both spouses and the place where you both are living rightnow and since when.

Cohabitation visa is the easiest if you can proof that you've a 2+ years old relation + you got a stable job that grant you enough money to take care of your partner.

You can't do a family reunion if your mariage wasn't recorded at the embassy / registry

Religious means nothing to administration in EU.

@AlexFromBelgium Hello Alex, please i have some questions, I've known my spouse (fiance) since 2018, he is non eu but he already has his B card. I'm also non eu.

He came to my country in December 2020 and he traveled back to Belgium in April 2021(4 months) many pictures and videos we took together, we also did traditional marital rites in my country during that period, we also have hundreds of pictures and videos to prove it.

In November 2021 we met twice in 2 different African countries (we have visas and entry stamps to prove it too)

Since then we've not been able to physically meet, but we chat and video call daily.

I want  to apply for cohabitation visa so we can live together and get married also in Belgium within 2024.

I'm a bit confused about the requirements we have to meet for cohabitation visa, because on the fps website it says we have to meet 3 times within the last 2 years for a total of at least 45 days. Seeing that our first and longest meeting was from December 2020 to April 2021 (it exceeds the "within the last 2 years" requirement, do we still meet the criteria?

Sorry for the long text. Thanks

Hello

When you say marital rite, do you mean official marriage?

if it's the case, then you'll have to do a family reunion visa (up to 1 year)

If you're not married yet, then the law is simple: are you cheating or not?

so basically they ask proof that you know each other for at least 2 years, 3 different visits and at least 45 days spent days spent together. If you've more, that's even better

Remember: show as much documents/proofs/pictures/... as you can!
