Hi Gary and Logan,

Welcome to Expat-blog! :)

Hello Gary and Logan!

I am a local who has never raised a child of my own (except for helping out with 3 nephews) and who has never lived in S.Thomas (for more than two days). Besides giving you a generic perspective about life on the island I've got nothing fresh or new to tell you that you couldn't find on other threads. But if you were to ask questions that were a little more specific I might be able to help you.

What do you want to know about raising a child on the island?

Do you want to start a construction and refrigeration business on the island?

How good is your Spanish?

Are you willing to spend as much money as you would living on one of the 50 states or are you looking for something cheaper like Costa Rica?

What kind of life do you want? City? Beach? Mountains?

How much patience do you have?

Kamusta na?

For raising children and living a serene life move to the west or north-west of the island. If you like something quiet also avoid living near the Universities and "La zona metropolitana" like San Juan, Bayamon and Santurce. It doesnt matter where you move to beaches are always a few minutes away. I grew up there and in the US, every few years we would go back and forth. I am moving back there next year with my wife and 2 year old.

HI MY FRIEND,LET ME TELL YOU THAT PUERTO RICO IS WAY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN PHILIPPINES,SPANISH IS THE MAIN LANGUAGE,I ADVICE YOU TO RENT A HOUSE FIRST DEPENDING ON THE LOCATION THAT YOU PREFER,THEN LOOKING FOR THE SCHOOLS ,HOSPITALS ETC THAT YOU LIKE,THEN JUST RESEARCH FOR THE BEST DEAL,IM IN NYC BUT I PLAN TO GO TO PHILIPPINES TO LIVE FOR ONE YEAR,I PREFER THE PROVINCES LIKE VISAYAS AND MINDANAO,FOR ME ITS WAY CHEAPER THERE,GOOD LUCK AND HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON,LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES FOR YOU>
