We are moving within a month or so. We would live of pensions. The ambasse told me to go and do it from there within 90 days with the help of a lawyer. I imagine bringing all current paperwork and original documents needed.

I would contact your Honduran Consulate or embassy. They will answer all your questions.
It is not as simple as International Living portrays it to be, but doable.

Just contact a reputable local Honduran attorney. They will fill you in on exactly what to do and what you need for residency

You cannot do it yourself you do need a Honduran lawyer. However bringing your required original papers would make things swifter.

Chris is right. Get an attorney that specializes in residency. Then it is really easy. Be careful though, every attorney in the country will tell you they can do it but only a few will do it right and in your lifetime. I have a few good ones I work with including the one who actually wrote the Immigration Act for the country and ran that ministry!

I am originally from Canada and have lived in Roatan, HN 13 years. For close to 30 years I have been in the real estate industry. Honduras is easy to move to. To own a business here all you need is cash. To operate a business here you require residency. Most people form or purchase a corporation but it isn't a requirement. You can use the same attorney for both although I usually refer clients to a residency specialist - the fellow who wrote the Immigration Act for the country.

We have purchased a cabana in Sandy Bay and are here through the end of March. We hear so many conflicting opinions about obtaining residency, the length of time it takes, the piles of paperwork and the expense of getting it. Could you please give us the names of the good residency specialist attorneys you know, including the one who wrote the Immigration Act. We would be most appreciative!

My husband and I fell in love with Roatan and the people. We are fed up with our Ontario Government ( or lack of) and have a 3 yr plan to leave here. The more research I do on Roatan, the more we are convinced this is the place for us. 
I too would like to hear more details of ones experience in getting their residency in Honduras.

Hey guys my wife and I have been in La Ceiba Beach Club since December. As long as you visit the Canadian consulate and have your documents verified, health certificate, background check, proof of investment here in Honduras, the process is quite simple and nowhere near as crazy as some people make it sound. Our situation is a little different as we have some local friends that have helped us through the application process. The cost is set by the lawyer you choose and I would suggest you follow Island Ed's selection of an attorney. He is very well respected throughout the legal communities in Honduras.
