Hello, introduction and help on international schools

janssen22

Hi. My name is Peter Janssen, I am Dutch with over 30 years of expat life in 12 countries, having worked for the United Nations (UNHCR, in fact). I currently live in Colombia and plan to retire soon and move to the DR mid next year. I have a sixteen-year-old daughter who would finish her last two years of high school in the DR. Would any of you have some advice on a good international school? We are not necessarily looking for the highest academic standards (such as IB), she is more into arts and creative subjects. Depending on the school we would look for a house or apartment nearby. Any advice would be welcome. many thanks in advance!

Hello,

Abraham Lincoln School in La Romana has British curriculum and teaches in English. Graduates are eligible to attend Universities in Canada, U.S. and Europe.

I am not sure how into the arts and creative endeavors the schools are here!  However near La Romana is a major creative arts academy in Altos de Chavon.

La Romana is a decent size city, an hour from Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. It offers pretty much all services needed. I spent 2 years in la Romana and quite liked it.

Located in Altos de Chavón at Casa de Campo, the La Romana Campus is an iconic space that has been a fundamental part of CHAVÓN’s history and legacy. Although Technical Programs are taught in Santo Domingo, students visit La Romana during their studies to participate in intensive workshops, special activities, and experiences that connect them with the cultural and artistic legacy of this institution. Additionally, programs such as “Artists in Residence” are developed here, and activities with other institutions are carried out, fostering collaboration between artists and designers from different parts of the world
