New members of the Dominican Republic forum, introduce yourselves here - 2023
Hi, my name is Karel, living in Cabarete since 2020. Kitesurfing and renting out ocean front condos. Have a great and sunny day in the paradise of the Dominican Republic! :-)
@Gigli10
Welcome Gigi.
i am looking at the south east side of the Island. Bayahive-Dominicus. nice quiet beach town.
Hello everyone, my name is Juan. And I will be visiting Sosua next month and would like to find a personal chef to prepare meals at my villa for 2. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I do love to cook but I want to relax and enjoy DR. So if anyone knows of a person or place, I would appreciate it
@tuckersconstruction Welcome to the forum. this thread is only for introductions and welcomes, so please start a new thread with your questions.
Hello everyone! My name is Palmira and I’m a SoCal native. I lived in Santo Domingo for about a year between 2018-2019. I will be returning to visit the north coast and Santiago at the end of the year. I’m looking forward to checking out schools for my daughter and places to possibly live in that area. I’m a retired Army Veteran (20 yrs) and looking into the country’s Foreign Medical Program (FMP) clinics authorized to treat Veterans with service connected disabilities at no cost from the VA. Unfortunately, I’ve been placed on a wait list in the states, even though I’m 100% permanent and total. However, these specific clinics have immediate availability for treatment and care. Any recommendations as far as schools, moving, shipping household goods, or vehicle, is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Welcome to the forums. Lots of info in the various threads on so many topics. Ask questions as you go along!
@Julien hi all. I am a shipping broker from Nigeria and am planning on relocating to the DR. Most of my business activities centers around the Carribeans and working remotely from Nigeria has limited my abilities to realise my full potentials. Would appreciate all the assistance/advice to make move fruitful.
@Palmira82nd  Hi and welcome. Always nice to have another Veteran considering relocating to here. If you are looking at Santiago, there is a Veterans Clinic now located in the building immediately adjacent to HOMS hospital. I'm a Life Member of the VFW but being a Canadian Vet I do not get to use. They however assisted me as they moved into a location where a Medical Supply store was that I used to buy my Distilled Water for my CPAT machine. I haven't driven from Moca where I reside with my wife to Puerto Plata or other points on the North Coast but I would have to think the highway widening between Santiago & PP should be completed by now.....otherwise it's a nice easy drive from Santiago to PP, Sosua and Cabarete for beach breaks. Cheers
@Julien Hello - not a newbie - just got a new laptop and change my registration info from 2VP Soldier now that I had the opportunity.
@dougdanakids
DR does not recognize IRA's as legal entities... you will have to register your company in DR to buy/sell land, and pay taxes on all holdings every year in DR. Just FYI...
Again please take this discussion to a forum thread. Intros and welcomes here.Â
We do this so that discussions on specific topics can be searched and found by others
@Adam Baaba Welcome ! and wish you wellÂ
Hey Everyone
My husband (born in DR raised in the states) are here in San Pedro for a few months to spend time with his family and possibly relocate here in the near future. He works in the tech space as a software engineer, and I am just doing some part time organizational strategy consulting while we are here.
We have lived in California, Hawaii, and NYC when we were the states and are excited for our tine here. I wanted to join this group to connect and get some insight from those that are more experienced living here.Â
looking forward to getting to know some of you or seeing you around maybe
Welcome to the forums!!!! We can help in many ways! I see you have already been browsing the various threads!
Hi my fellow expats just purchased a property in Sosua in May. Looking forward to retiring here in a few years with my wife. For now spending as much time as we can. Love the area and our house, but it will be a project. We have met some awesome people so far in the Dominican republic and looking forward to meeting many more in the future.
Hi! I was born and raised to the DR. Currently living in the US but go back home every year. Just throwing some lines here to connect with this community because I will move back home in few years
@planner well, I'm from the DR and can't wait to move back. Just accumulating a bit more of money and pasive income before a pull the trigger! 🤣😂🤣
My only experience to share is that dominicans are friendly with a nice spirit of happiness in most of people. Yeah! You will find here and there some jerks that doesn't know what do to in life but that is not the majority of us.
My recommendation to any xpat that move to the DR is: stay away from the big cities. Are ovrt crowded, traffic is a mess and index of crime are higher there. Go to places where you can enjoy the beauty of the island, like:
Close to the beach:
Las Terrenas
Las Galeras
Rio San Juan
Cabrera
Bayahibe
Cabarete
Sosua
Punta Cana
Miches
and many others!!
Mountains:
Arroyo Frio
San Jose de Ocoa
Constanza
Jarabacoa
Manabao
La Cienega
And many others!!
You need to open a thread honey and give us your perspective on your country!  This is very welcome here. You can copy and paste this last message into a new thread and lets chat! (Actually I will do it)
By the way, we keep this thread for introductions.
Hello everyone. My name is Dee and I'm moving to Punta Cana by end of April 2024.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Todd, I'm 51 and from Colorado. I got married to a Dominican woman over a year ago and have been spending a lot of time with her in Santiago. I've been going back and forth between Colorado and Santiago, staying in DR 1-3 months per visit. Eventually my plan is to get my residency and stay permanently if my job permits.Â
