聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Sorry to hear about all the damage , but at least you guys made it through it with out injuries. that鈥檚 the most important thing everything else can and will b replace 鈥..

at least now you have bragging rights that you made it through the eye 馃憗 of the storm , it鈥檒l make for a good cocktail story down the line

we have a couple of places where flying solar panels chipped the pool tile. I鈥檓 tempted to leave at least one as a 鈥渂attle scar鈥!

yes, we are very fortunate that our damage was minimal! It will take a few months for the new doors to be made and delivered, but we have a nice, secure wooden structure in place to cover the opening!

I am ready to have the power restored! Hauling buckets of water is getting old!

Tippj

Lol 鈥 yeah leave a scar聽 you鈥檒l have a good story around the BBQ to tell 鈥.now you have a few projects to complete and you know what the week points were on the house for the next one , one can only learn from this and thankfully your hear to tell the story鈥.

Good story telling 鈥. 馃ぃ馃槈

Glad to hear you and Dave made it through Fiona all safe and sound :)

Sorry to hear about the damage you have suffered.

Do you have any thoughts on what you would do differently in the build of your new house, now having gone through Fiona ?

Would you have put up rolling metal barriers over windows and doors?

Very interested to hear your guys thoughts on this.

Thanks 馃檹

Wow, so glad you're ok!! That's the most important thing, I agree.

For people who don't have access to a pool: One thing I did years ago was - I bought 3 of the 5-gallon paint pails (plastic) at Home Depot ( I'm sure you can get them down there as well). The ones with the lids. I clean them with a bit of bleach and water and then, before a storm comes, I fill them all and put the tight lids on. We keep them filled until after a storm passes in case we need them for bathing, washing dishes, etc. We always have bottled water on hand for drinking and we have a pool as well but anyone who doesn't have access to a pool, the pails are a good alternative. Of course, not to drink if you fill them from the faucets down there, but as a backup for for bathing/dishes/etc. I had told a friend about these a few years ago and ever since, they keep the pails filled in a back room for when they lose their water which is evidently too frequently for comfort where they live. :-)

Since our front door (a 16.5 x 10鈥 area with two fixed glass panels and two sliding panels) has to be replaced, we are adjusting the height. Instead of the door going to the ceiling, we are adding a header that will allow us to put a roll down shutter there for added protection. That's a huge surface area and the wind gusts across there were extreme!

We sit on the top of a hill about half way up our loma. The views are awesome, but that means no wind buffer at all!! Fortunately, we built our house so that it hugs the terrain and sits pretty low on the land.

@ddmcghee

That is a huge surface for the wind to grab hold of, sounds beautiful though. A roll down shutter will be nice peace of mind for future storms :)

It sounds like paradise where you built.

Lets hope it鈥檚 a long time till Las Terrenas sees the likes of a Fiona again !

Planner is HIGHLY respected on the island and always has everyones best interest at heart!

Hurricanes can be quite severe there! Irma and Maria did alot of damage in my neighborhood when we were there and my neighbors told me about a storm think called David that wiped out LT. He said they literally hid in a cave to survive it but many animals and homes did not survive. That it was sheer devastation.

i am not currently there but saw pics from friends that Fiona did her share of damage too鈥

Planner keep up the good work!
