Public transportation in the Cayman Islands

Armand

Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in the Cayman Islands ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed? What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in the Cayman Islands?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Ours is a small island, Armand, with a total population of 50,000 max. Public transport consists of jitneys and taxis; the rest of us own cars, but occasionally use the others. Fares are about two bucks, I think. We usually take a taxi to or from the airport, when we're both going away, and that costs US$20 each way, which includes a tip. You didn't ask about the price of petrol, but on an island that's 20 miles long and 8 miles wide, who cares, right?

I should have mentioned inter-island travel, which is only by plane - 737 to and from Grand Cayman, little Cessna or similar between the others.

The mini buses - jitneys - were amazing when I was there. Inexpensive and frequent and friendly way to travel, to meet others if you wish. Much better than big buses. Just like several friends gathered in a big car. Fun.
