New member, short stay in HCM

GuestPoster298

51 year old retired gemstone/antique jewellery appraiser. Sailed from Italy last year, now anchored off the Viet coast waiting for dry dock slot to have some work carried out, both engines serviced, hull cleaned/anti fouled and various upgrades to the bridge and galley.
Work expected to take 6 to 8 weeks so have rented a property in HCM until completed. Then will be heading to Santa Lucia via Sri Lanka and Seychelles to arrive sometime next year. Would be good to meet some expats that know the city away from tourists. Enjoy my solitude on the boat but nice to have a few beers and a chat during brief shore visits.

Where are you staying in HCMC?

You say you are anchored offshore.  Have you received permission to land;  not the boat, yourself?

I saw a case in the news a while back where a guy sailing alone ended up in (I think) Australia and they let him in after determining he was the ultimate social distancer being on his boat alone for 3-4 months.

GuestPoster298

No problems although was a little complicated. Marinas have a few loops to jump through but all ok.
Have been isolated for 4 weeks prior to landing and have sat-nav records to support. Cost a little with agents but no real problem. Have visa for 3 months which should be enough.

GuestPoster298

All sorted as per other answer. Not easy but but no real problem.

GuestPoster298

Stein.
Spend most of my time at alone at sea, can't get more isolated than that. Did need to show Sat-nav records, log etc but no real problem. I think it was more about paying agents than Covid.

Have a property in D1

GuestPoster298

What marina are you using, for your boat?

Small repair yard organised via Bao Hoang. Boat is 22m with a relatively shallow hull. No keel as such, rudders or props. Powered by aqua jets and two Merc inboards so relatively easy to get into a dry or floating containment. Exact location, from what I have experienced elsewhere, is best left out.

Hi.
It's a well equipped motor yacht and my next stop will be Sri Lanka. Then on to Seychelles and eventually St Lucia, have no idea where after. Do not need or want any help with any expenses but could maybe take on some company, at least as far as Sri Lanka. Would need to discuss.

I have no idea what you are talking about, I thought this was a friendly expat site. Was obviously wrong.

Based on what?   I know this person's oceangoing lifestyle sounds nice but certainly not impossible.

22mtr motor yacht to get to the Seychelles will need a lot of fuel stops for that sort of distance..

Good observation Jigarbutt.  It looks like the story is starting to unravel.  Sri Lanka to the Seychelles directly is about 3000 km.  Perhaps the entire deck area is covered by large rubber fuel bladders.  That's how they ferry small airplanes by taking on fuel as freight.

Of course he could circumnavigate the Indian Ocean via Pakistan, Iran, and Yemen.  The Seychelles are 1029 km from Mogadishu, the closest major landing which may not be the most hospitable place to be taking on fuel.  Perhaps Mr. Olive could add another leg on his way around the Cape of Good Hope on his way to St. Lucia by stopping at Mauritius to visit face-to-face with the moderators.

Typically a yacht that size would have a range of 900 miles at cruising speeds.

As for the water jet propulsion, Kamewa build these units and they are normally used in sports cruisers rather than long range boats.

Exactly, so that means our new member knows what that relates to.

I wonder how he knows?  :/
