Health insurance questions

KelseyPDX

Hi all,

I'm planning on moving to Hanoi this fall from the US. One question I have is about health insurance and access to things like Western prescription drugs. Any advice on how to get insurance or get meds? I  plan on teaching English, so maybe my school in Vietnam will help, as well, but I'm curious about it. Thanks!

Hi, perhaps this answer is a little bit late but I still hope it may help you.

You can always find health insurance by contacting with insurance companies or brokers. One criteria is that it's better to find a policy with direct billing in Vietnam. Or you have to pay and get reimbursement later - it is very troublesome. For western medicines, you can find it at some private clinics such as Family Practice.

If your school can provide a group plan, it will be much better. In most cases individual policies do not cover pre-existing conditions, while group policies have better coverage. For big groups, the insurance company may provide MHD - Medical History Disregarded and you don't have to worry about pre-existing conditions at all.
