An "Official" Visa On Arrival Agency?
As old timers on the forum know, it gets to be crazy trying to keep visa agents from posting their links in the forum, mainly because they are not considered to be official government sources, and in many cases can turn out to be scams.
However, I was just viewing and noticed a remarkable thing.
When choosing a link to answer specific questions about visa eligibility, etc, I was redirected to the website of
vietnam-visaDOTcom
I'm not posting the live link here because I don't want this to be interpreted as a promotion of the website or company, but it's interesting to me that the official website of the Houston consulate refers directly to that commercial website.
Even more interesting is that the VOA website clearly states that applying for a business visa through a consulate or embassy requires a sponsor letter, but applying for a business Visa through their company does not.
It's been pretty easy for many of us to just lump all these agents into one category, but it seems that this particular company may have most-favored status with the consulate, perhaps due to their connection with someone who works there?
Thoughts?

Since moving here permanently 2008 I have used 3 visa agents (actually one you quote on your post) , 2 on line & one direct from their office & I can honestly say I have never ever been screwed or abused or ripped off by any of them. I use them for their convenience & never ever have be grudged them their fee. They provide a service & they should be paid for it & anyone that knows life here their fee does not go into their pockets as there are "other expenses to pay"
I have to have a laugh at some of the rants on here about unscrupulous agents ripping off their customers, well I have never experienced it & if you cant scrape up (in the past) 300 usd for a 3 months multi entry tourist visa you probably should not be here in the first place.

I agree with virtually everything you're saying, though I'm wondering who was paying that much for a 3-month visa?
Maybe it's different prices based on different nationalities?
I paid a little bit more than that for a one-year business Visa (US citizens)

UK Citizen & well its been well over 2 years since I did the 3 months multi entry tourist visa bit so the past was a bit misty, so just checked my old e mails from Vietnam-e* & it was just under 20usd for the letter & as I remember 90 usd for the visa. Then again things got difficult & I found an e mail just at the start of Covid & I got a 1 month extension for 180 usd so that might be where I got the 300 usd from but hey.......bring back the 3 months multi entry for me cos the visa run to BKK broke up my time here!! & some friends down Soi Cowboy & soi 4 keep sending me messages on FB saying how very very much the miss me
Not all visa agents are evil. I used the one who posts on this forum sometimes, when I was fresh off the boat. I didn't speak Vietnamese or have a Vietnamese wife yet to navigate party offices, and it was easy peasy. I would happily refer him if someone messages me.
There are also a couple on FB Expats that are routinely recommended.
All agents are tar and feathered now because of the foreign expert visa arrests during lockdowns in 2021.

And I still think the VOA system makes a lot of sense, since Immigration really doesn't want to be bothered communicating with all foreigners and it provides employment & entrepreneurship to many citizens.

Oh yeah, the price of a 3-month extension during lockdown was getting brutal.
I hope to never see that again, knock wood!

During Covid visa agents were going for the jugular, as too were the transport guys. Quotes for a 4-seater car from Vung Tau to the airport was anything up to 3.5 million, now, its 900k. If people are happy to pay the gouging arseholes, then do it, but I prefer to shop around and pay a fair price.

Fortunately I had/have a regular driver in Vũng Tà u who never attempted to raise his regular rate on me during lockdown.

Private drivers in VT are like sellers at Ben Thanh market: quote you 4 times their minimum, then if you get them to cut that by 50%, you think you got a great deal, while the driver laughs at you for paying twice what your Vietnamese girlfriend pays when she's not with you.
