Customs delays ?

gautammalhotra21

"Would have had more chance declaring the value lower, it avoids import taxes and scrutiny from customs. Upto 100USD would have skipped serious customs checks and avoided import taxes

All medical equipment which i suspect is what your goods are classified as require the importer to be registered for... it sounds like customs think your are importing the goods to sell... have you any documents supporting your claim for personal use ?"

Yes I have all the documents that support the fact that the lens will be used by me as I have undergone eye surgery and those lenses are required post surgery. However, they are still asking for the import license.

Yes, I made a mistake by declaring the actual value, but thats done now.

"It won't take that much.  500,000 will get it released to you without an import license.  The lady ships my parts imports a lot of products for coffee makers that they manufacture in VN.  She normally has to pay 200,000-500,000 per package.  You will probably have to go to customs with someone that speaks Vietnamese and meet with the customs official"

Ok, but how do you enter the customs. I mean I have never done that except for when travelling.

How was it shipped?  FedEx, UPS, DHL?  You will have to contact the shipper to see where you would need to go.  I know FedEx has customs onsite.  I just went there myself a week or so ago to get a package with some OTC medicines released to me because I didn't have an import license.  I put 500,000 in my passport and gave it to the customs agent but she surprisingly didn't take it and made me write a letter detailing everything on the package and in the package and self-certifying that it was for personal use and not for resale.  Then she released it and it was delivered the next day.  This is a grey area and a bribe so your mileage may vary depending on the agent.
