Pipe tobacco

Malcolmleitrim

I like to smoke a pipe occasionally, not one of the vietnamese bamboo things, but an old fashioned european briar pipe. Does anyone know where I can buy pipe tobacco in Hanoi?

1888 Cigar OR Rolling Stoned might have what you seek

Thank you, cigar 1888 doesn't have any, I will try rolling stoned but they seem to sell mostly cigarette tobacco.

@mpmilestogo thank you, that looks like a good shop.

Malcolmleitrim

@mpmilestogo Thank you, I was able to get some pipe tobacco in that shop. A strange experience though, he obviously deals more online. When I eventually found the "shop" it was shuttered and seemed to be closed, but when I phoned him the shutters lifted and there was what could loosely but described as a shop. I squeezed past a couple of motorbikes and selected my tobacco but there was a much smaller selection than on the website. I guess everything is done online now and he probably has a stockroom or warehouse somewhere else.

It's interesting how pipe smoking has really gone out of fashion across the world.

Not at my house, it hasn't. Mind you, I use "...one of the vietnamese bamboo things".

:)

Thank you, Malcolm, for reporting back on mpmilestogo's recommendation!

@Aidan in HCMC I've never tried one of those Aidan, vietnamese friends tell me it's very strong and not suitable for westerners. I was never an addicted smoker, in fact I gave it up entirely about thirty years ago. I have now gone back to enjoying an occasional cigar or pipe on the assumption that at my age its unlikely to do me much harm.

Yes, it's amazing how fashions change. Back in the late 60's I lived in London and used to frequent Smiths Snuff Shop, where there were dozens of different loose tobaccos to choose from and blend together if you wished.
