Could anyone tell me what Thailand is like for expats?

kellyj20

Hi everyone,

I have been offered a teaching job in Thailand, starting late October 2025. It will be North Thailand, Isaan. Could anyone tell me what Thailand is like for expats? For example culture, cost of living, transport, weather, best places to visit etc? I will be there for 5 months.

Thanks

low living cost, lot of food, and safe.

Isaan is Thailand's northeastern region.

You can connect to the South to try seafood, and to the North to learn cultural wealth.

Flying to different regions is just 1000-2000 baht per trip.

Good to try, but if you wanna teach in Thailand in the longterm,

you have to learn online to get a teaching license -- indicating that

you know teaching ethics and how to treat students well.

I would say that flying internally is a bit more expensive that 1000 - 2000 baht.

The weather can be severe, especially if you're not used to it, I have experience with Isaan, it's very quiet depending on where you are based. It's for some but not for others.  I would suggest you read up on it first, before you commit to anything. You seem quite young, again it depends on what your expectations are, Isaan is not for the partying type.
