Well I can tell you that the competition could burn you down. Expect to pay the police lots of money.
There are many bars for sale by foreigners in Pattaya and other places. That could be a clue right there. I have 40 years experience dealing with Thais, I live and work here full time. I am Canadian.

Less and less foreigners are coming to live in Thailand, tourists come and go. You need a work permit, you need a non B visa. Be prepared to have a few million Bhat that you can loose.
Foreigners are not allowed to do a job that a Thai can do, that means owning and running a bar. Foreigners are not wanted in Thailand, only their money is. Much like Thai women, the same.

Immigration Police regularly visit these places and if they see a foreigner taking the money, your gone, held at an immigration centre until you can provide the funds to fly out and then you are blacklisted and cannot return. Competition calls police on you. Happens everyday here, or a pissed off customer.

Come and visit Thailand, go to Pattaya, look at the bars for sale. If things were so good, they would not be selling the business. Come and live here for a year and then make your decision.

I would suggest to do it with a Thai partner, but yes competition is fierce but at the same time opportunities as well. Goodluck! Even I was thinking of opening a bar but demotivated because of culture and capital.

I would suggest you don't do it unless you feel like pissing your money away or you have plenty of money to burn.

In my opinion, you should do your personal research about your competitors, market and all regular in Bangkok, first. If you feel that you want to open a bar, please go for it.

Had one in Pattaya...a dream that turned into a nightmare....would never recommend it, sorry to be negative but its just a money pit that comes with sooooo much stress and you will be robbed blind by all......GOOD LUCK

I have friends who have done it successfully

you need to do 100% by the book with proper accountant, thai company(51% owned by thais), get a workpermit, get VAT registration, all licenses need such as alcohol license,... and pay the police probably standard too. best to ask more advice to other foreign bar owners..

for a good accountant (or lawyer) to set up a company, I use this online directory called Winvasia, they list more than 150 websites of local lawyers and accountants which can help you

cheers!

if you really wants to open a thai company you have to read all info about it, first foreigner can own 49 % thai share 51 % that means you need a thai shareholder, you have already ? and be-careful about investment in Thailand before you know everything, i suggest you first come Thailand live here for 6-10 months after you will learn everything thai rules etc what ever you need,

If you want to do the business go to Cambodia, you can own 100% business, never have to worry about your visa , you dont need to leave the country to renew your 1 year visa Cambodia 1 year visa cost $285 a year and no need to show any paper or money just pay $285 and you get 1 year visa
more and more people are retired in Cambodia now leaving thailand
look Cambodia not Thailand.
