Moving to Thailand

drgion

Hello all, My name is Dragos, a born and raised in Bucharest, Romanian guy, and a Canadian citizen since 1993.   I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada.  I'm 59 and I retired a few years ago.

Last year, I visited many places in Thailand.  Although the natural beauty is mainly concentrated in the area between Phuket and Krabi, and Koh Samui, I liked Pattaya and Hua Hin, due to the lower humidity.

I'm planning to come to these areas in a couple of weeks.

If anyone is interested in communicating with me, please do not hesitate to do so, on this platform.

Cheers

Hi Dragos, one thing to check out and an item often overlooked, is the availability of medical insurance for yourself. If it helps I recommend these people who have proved reliable to me over time and very helpful.

Suggest look their web site for an idea of options/prices

Maybe Krabi, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Pattaya?

Phuket/Bangkok/Koh Samui more expensive in general

Local or international?

Not here in Thailand.  That is to low of income. With that income you would have a lot of trouble even getting a retirement visa  here.

Try Argentina. Panama but not in the main cities.

Remember that Medicare is only good in the USA.  You will have to buy your own health insurance where ever you go outside of the USA.

And as a retire you may not work in most countries.

You may want to go to Mississippi or some very low cost state in the USA.  But check out what they have for retires first as a lot if these low cost state's do not have very much in the way of doctors even if Medicare will pay for you.

And ssi and the rest is only if you live in the USA.

To me it sounds like you will need to work in your retirement.

Good luck.

Check Cambodia. Very easy to get a retirement visa, low cost of living.

Minimum age for retirement is 55, no minimum income requirement.

$1,800 USD/month will afford you a quite comfortable (not opulent) lifestyle.

Interesting, what about Turkiye?

Interesting - which you think better option from Panama and Argentina?
