You can easily make a bank transfer from your account in the UK to your account in Thailand. Due to the Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) between Thailand and the UK, this amount is generally not taxed again, provided it is money that has already been taxed.

One important advantage of a bank-to-bank transfer is that both banks can clearly verify the source of the funds. Since the transfer is from one account to another in your name, it is much easier to prove the origin of the money, and there are fewer questions about the transaction.

I also recommend using for this purpose. With Wise, you benefit from:

    •    Low transfer fees,

    •    very competitive exchange rates,

    •    fast transfers directly to your Thai bank account.

Alternatively, you could bring cash, but strict declaration rules apply. In Thailand, you must declare amounts exceeding 20,000 USD upon arrival. The UK also requires you to report large cash exports.

If you plan to transfer larger amounts regularly, you should check with your bank or a tax advisor about documentation requirements to avoid any issues proving the source of funds later.

Expert Insight – Context:

Your friend is correct that you can transfer funds multiple times per year. There is no fixed annual limit, but the key is that you comply with reporting obligations and can clearly document where the money comes from (e.g., savings, income). A bank-to-bank transfer is always the most straightforward option, as it is fully traceable.
