Work Holiday Pass Guidance

liamholdaway

Hi all,

I have an in-principle Work Holiday Pass which expires 16th November 2021. I am coming from the UK, fully vaccinated and have a few questions:

- Can my in-principle approval expire while I am in the SHN Facility? (I have applied for an extension in case this can't, as I intend to arrive 11th November)

- Will the pass expire 6 months from when it is issued? For example, if I arrived 11th November but do not get my pass until 25th November (after the SHN is complete), will my WHP expire on 25th May? Basically I am working out the latest date I can book my flight home.

- Could someone please verify the quarantine costs and rules? From looking online I can see that there is SHN Facility requirement ($2000) and PCR & Rapid Testing ($125 + $40 x 3). Is there anything additional I need to consider?

- Should I wait until after I receive MoM approval to book my flight? I saw a rumour online that the MoM gives you a specific date or date range when you can enter. I do not want to pre-emptively book my flight then have to change it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Good questions. Better ask the visa-issuing authority (I assume it is MoM)!

Maybe someone with direct experience (i.e. has gone through the SHN) can tell what the actual cost is?
In any case, with Singapore being one of the most expensive places in the world, it is always good to bring plenty of money!

You should definitely wait!
No entry approvals for WHV holders have been given for many months - see related forum discussions - and I assume you will be rejected, too.

You need to get the entry approval then book flights, utmost it takes a day for the approval to come through. I have had a few colleagues who have come in during tougher times but that’s the process.

Costs, yes, the 2K if you don’t select a posh hotel for stay and then the tests. Nothing else except the food you may want to factor in, if you aren’t ok with what’s served :)

Hi Liamholdaway,

Happy to share with you my understanding about WHP as I came to Singapore in Jan 2020 with this pass. I think the IPA letter states that your pass must be issued before the IPA letter or the short-term visit pass expires, whichever expires first. The same is true for other work passes (My company's instruction for new employees states clearly about the date of expiration.)

Thus, I think you should plan the date when you finish SHN will be before 16th November 2021. You need to book a slot for the pass issued in Employment Pass Services Centre. You can book 14 days in advance if I remember correctly.

Please note that my experience with WHP is before covid, thus the regulations may be changed.

Hope it helps!

Thanks for your replies both. Super helpful and good to know my interpretation of the costs on the website are broadly correct.

Is this strictly true or based on posts here? I saw a few posts from March/April time on this site but was assuming the situation had improved. Interesting that they would still be approving Visas, but not entry.

Let’s see what happens in any case.

It's based on posts here, as there are no official announcements. But I suspect WHV holders are not seen as essential to the Singapore economy and thus have a low priority.
Please come back and report your experience, so others in waiting can be more hopeful!
