Can I work remotely from India for Singapore based employer

Pradeep G29

Hi,

I am just in discussion for a offer from Singapore employer but given the situation not sure of the possibility to support work from India until pandemic stabilize.

Do we have any guidelines on this aspect and would help if you could provide me information on how to answer this question to consultant and prospective employer to give confidence?.

Hi Pradeep,
I am not sure I got the question right, so do clarify if it isn’t addressed below-

1. Can you work from India since there is a travel ban and you can’t come to Singapore?
It depends on your employer. If it is a tech job, or the job doesn’t require you to be in Singapore right away- your employer can make an interim provision and apply for your work permit when things are back to normal

2. Would an employer do it? Not sure, you need to have this discussion

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot. You are correct that employer can make this decision but just trying to confirm Indian regulation does not prevent us working from India for a Singapore based company. The consultant was more worried about if any restrictions in this regard. I believe there is no restrictions but if anywhere in Indian GOVT website.

AFAIK MOM asked employees abroad to be on LOP. But yeah, it's your company's headache, Singapore doesn't behave any Remote work pass

This is a question about Indian law and thus should thus be asked on the India forum, not here (Singapore forum)!
