Hi Christine,
I am also a pregnant woman in Nepal. I am also seeing Dr Koirala at Ciwec and I am very happy with her and the clinic.
However, when we came to Kathmandu and were already planning the pregnancy, I had a look at Norvic Hospital. The staff are very nice but it is (unlike Ciwec) a very "nepali" hospital. I had a prophylactic examination there and the Dr. advised me to get an ultrasound of the pelvis, my regular pap smear and a blood test. They do not have the equipment to do those things at Norvic, which really surprised me!
However, I was still thinking about delivery in Nepal and considering Norvic, although Dr Koirala is practicing also at Om for deliveries and I feel really comfortable with her. What worries me though is that they do need certain equipment also at the delivery, right? To measure the heart beat and that? So I do not know if they have that at Norvic or Om.
Dr Koirala advised me strongly to go away for delivery and offered to give me a pass for the flight about 2 or 3 weeks before the delivery date (being away from Nepal for very long, like 2 months before delivery date as they say it is the last time you are allowed to fly worried me too much - we have a home and pets and I didn't want to leave them for such a long time) to fly out to Bangkok. When the baby is about one week old, you can already fly back.
My baby is due at the end of February and I think we will go for that Bangkok option.
I know my reply is very late, and maybe, Christine, you already have your baby. But maybe my reply is helping other ladies and maybe Christine, you can also share your experiences?
