Applying for MM2H visa extension after it has expired. Possible?
Hi Guys,
Just joined the forum in the hope that someone with a similar experience can help.
In February 2013 I received the MM2H visa. However, my United States Passport was valid only until August 2017. Hence my MM2H visa was valid only until February 2017 (instead of February 2023).
I have finally renewed my passport and am planning a visit to Malaysia in June 2017. Can I still apply for an extension on my MM2H visa (even though it has expired in February 2017)?
I hope so!  I could not return to Malaysia an earlier (due to family obligations) to get the extension. And even if I did, my US passport would have expired in August of 2017 any way.Â
I hope you can understand my quandary. I have just received my renewed passport (and I do have the old passport with the MM2H visa stamp in it).
Do I just show up at the MM2H office to apply for the extension? Or is the extension not granted if the MM2H visa has expired?
Do I have to bring the MM2H acceptance letter? Or is the MM2H visa stamp in the passport enough for the extension? What if I have misplaced the letter of acceptance? Can they track it in their system as proof?
Thanks for any input!
Alfred
I suggest you contact a MM2H agent with your questions and get their help. You probably have to show your acceptance letter, but again, an agent may be able to assist if you can't locate it. I believe that as you activated the 10 yr visa it is still valid and you would just need to submit your passport and extension forms to the MM2H office in Putrajaya. The official MM2H.gov website has an email contact if you want to enquire directly to them. To enter Malaysia it is a requirement to have 6 months validity on a passport so its good you have your new one now. I would definitely bring your expired passport with you to clarify matters.

No problem to transfer and extend your MM2H balance year to the new passport.
Stamp after the visa expired you just need to pay extra JPV fee to immigration.
Just pay few hundreds Ringgit to agent help on this matter. Just within 1 working day.
On this page you can see what documents you need to bring with you for the extension
Hi Gravitas and Patrick,
Thank you for your assistance and advise.
MM2h response to questions was mixed.Â
I went up the chain of command and finally got much needed help from the deputy director Au How. He confirmed that I was eligible for the extension, and sent out emails to relevant people to dig into my files and print a copy of the mandatory Approval Letter. This way they wll have it ready for me when I am at the office on June 26.Â
Until Au intervened for me, I did not get any response from mm2h. Very disconcerting. This has been my experience in the past too. I have learned to skip the Bumiputras and deal directly with a Chinese name or an Indian name. Always gets me information I need.  The Bumiputras are wonderful to have lunch with. Face to face they are very helpful. But in an office setting and in email, they are impossible.
That being said, thank you to both Gravitas and Patrick for taking the time to respond.  Would Uber be the best option from train station to mm2h office in PutraJ? I will probably need an internet connection to hail a Uber car. What is the best option for wifi and internet connections in metro KL?
TTYL.
Yes, I've met Au How - he's a great guy and ultra helpful. I attended one of his talks to explain the latest process changes for applications (there is now an online facility for new applications). He is also the liaison point for all the Agents.
You could pre-book Uber from your hotel. Or if you have a Malaysian number you could buy some mobile credit (For Hotlink it's *100 hash) - they have 1 day packages.
Thanks, Gravitas. So you have met Au? Yes, he is very helpful. Just today he send me another email with location/phone numbers, etc. I will try to meet him and thank him personally when I get to the mm2h office.
Pre booking Uber sounds like a great idea. Will try that. I have booked an Airbnb apartment. The owner says he provides me with a pocket internet. If I can use it outside the apt, this would be a great idea. Not sure.
Gravitas, you must be an agent. I see you have almost 4000 posts. You are great asset to the forum. I will be flying in to KL from Denver on June 23. I will fly out on June 28. Let me know if you would like to hook up at your favorite hawker stall.
Thanks for your assistance and advise.
Warmest regards.
Vasant.
No, not an agent - just a British retiree on MM2H now, and having lived in Malaysia for 7 years

23 - 28 June will be a bad choice of date. It is Hari Raya, muslim celebrating their new year.
23 June is Friday, basically half working day for everyone release for holiday.
25-26 is actually day of Hari Raya, replacement holiday will be on 27.
28 only resume to work, but most are still on leave.
Meant that as a compliment. Thank you for your assistance!
Patrick, thanks for this information. Being from India, I know how frustrating these holidays can be. It seems like every other day is a bank holiday due to some reason or the other. I do remember now that Monday is Id!
As long as the office is open, I feel I can push for it. I am glad I booked my departure flight out on June 28. I will be arriving late Friday, so the earliest I can visit mm2h would Monday, Jun 26.
Thanks. Will make adjustments accordingly!
Vasant.
OMG. After reading the list of official holidays, I realize that I am screwed!  The mm2h offices will not be open jun 26 and 27! Those were the 2 days that I had earmarked for mm2h stuff! I have my flight booked for July 28 morning!
Any suggestions?
26, ,27 June is National Public Holiday, Hari Raya,
All the Malays celebrating their New Year.
Even 28 June start working, most of the staff are still on leave.

i will suggest you come on 2nd July and you can go to MM2H by 3rd July.
I don't know if it is correct to post my case in this thread, which is similar to alfredv's.
In my case my visa is valid until the end of 2021, but my wife's passport was valid until the July 2019, therefore we got our MM2H visa, my wife's visa was given validity until July 2019.
Since we are not living in Malaysia, we could not go to Malaysia after we received my wife's new passport last year. Therefore, currently my wife's MM2H visa have been expired. In any case next year I need to visit Malaysias with my new passport to stamp the extinction of another 10 years.Â
What is the best option to renew my wife's MM2H visa in her new passport?

You and your wife are not allow to enter to Malaysia at the moment unless you're stranded in another country. No problem if your wife come into Malaysia with new passport after the MM2H visa expired. You may just need to pay extra RM 500+ Journey Performed Visa fee to transfer and extend the balance MM2H valid year in your wife's new passport.
