I don't know the income requirement, but I do know a friend whose brother-in-law is his sponsor because his wife has no income

Thats true she/he doesn't have to be a high income earner. My wife sponsors my LTSVP based on her pension from being a government employee. Ironically they don't care about any retirement income I have, which is abowife's5x my wife's pension. Even on the PR application that is never asked.
